Pac4Portugal - Our time out!

Pac4Portugal team would like to continue to promote its "Personal Service, Local Knowledge" via sharing our experiences.  Our time out! offers you an insight to events, places and leisure activities we like to undertake in our spare time, whether as a team, as an individual or with our clients

Carvoeiro Black & White Night

Now regarded as the premier start of summer party in the Algarve it is a time for tourists and people who live and work in the area to enjoy a fantastic night of entertainment.

So what is it, well they close several roads around the center of Carvoeiro and then set up around 9 stages in the town, with various entertainment for all to enjoy.  At midnight the beach becomes a giant dance floor for those who like electronic dance music, for the others there is usually another area with hits from '60s to 00s.

The evenings usually start around 20:00 and finish around 03:00, with around 30,000 people visiting.  Dress code is Black & White.  The experience is free.  18 June 2022

For those travelling from further away, there is a free shuttle bus with car parks in the Fatacil area.

Feira Medieval de Silves

This is a fantastic experience for all the family and well worth at least one trip during the event. It is normally on the second week in August for 10 nights. 10 - 19 August 2021

The event takes over part of Silves leading up to the Castle and is all things Medieval whether music, dancers, entertainers, jousting, food, stalls and more.  Suitable for all ages.  You can hire costumes if you want to get into the spirit, or just go casual - whatever you wear make sure you wear sensible shoes as the cobble streets can be slippery.

The evenings usually start around 18:00 and finish around 01:00.

There is normally a small entry fee for the general experience with added costs for jousting and the castle experience.

Exploring the Algarve

For those of you who hire a car and feel a little more adventurous than just going shopping we often like to show our clients a lovely day out that takes you to a beach near Aljezur on the west coast.  After lunch we then show them a route back via Caldas de Monchique, stopping for an early evening meal at one of our favourite restaurants before coming back down to Carvoeiro.

Usually this is something we do in the winter months with the dogs so that they can play endlessly in the estuary.  Also we like to go more off the beacon track to find the sandy tracks, deep in Medronho country.

Medronho is nick-named the prickly strawberry and  used to make jams as well as a very strong alcohol drink.

Walking Trails

The Algarve and Portugal is a beautiful country with many of the most beautiful places only accessible by foot.

We love exploring and from 2020 we have had much more time and a little addiction to have more adventures walking.

You can see some of the interesting walking trails we suggest now on a separate page, also with details of good sources to find more trails.

Discover the flora and fauna as well as the hidden treasures in the amazing landscape, which by the sea or in the countryside.

Music

From time to time we have the opportunity to see some of more well known bands, however it is just enjoyable to listen to the local artists whether professional or amateur.

During the summer we have an influx of quality music artists to entertain us especially with Sounds of the Atlantic in the middle of August and Fatacil at the end of August, as well as various events dotted around the Algarve.

Throughout the year their are many regular events where good and some slightly past it amateur musicains play live or jam together.  We even have a bit of a rock ´n roll star in our team.

Fatacil, Lagoa

Each year at the end of August there is the Fatacil festival at Lagoa. 20 - 29 August 2021

This is a great place to experience a wide range of activities including traditional artisan, horse shows, farm petting areas, commercial stalls, lots of varieties of food, entertainment, and at least one concert every night.

This festival attracts many Portuguese as well as a number of tourists and gives you a good all-round taste of Portugal

The ticket price is around 4€ and is great value, especially as many of the music bands use Fatacil as part of a larger tour program. 2015 included Richie Campbell, Amor Electro, Daniella Mercury and Anselmo Ralph.  In the past, there have been some great tribute bands

Mercado de Culturas à Luz das Velas - Lagoa

This is a beautiful experience in a few streets around the Convento de São José in Lagoa.

Each year there is a theme, in 2016 we had Celtic theme, with a number of Celtic musicians and culture to entertain us.  In addition there are a number of market stalls selling artisan and food and drink.

As it grows dark, some 12,000 plus candles are lit, outlining the symbols of the years theme.

Entry is free and it is also a rare opportunity to explore the stunning convent.

Music with food/drinks

So we have featured music at festivals, fairs or events

However on regular basis throughout the year you can go to a number of restaurant/bars to enjoy Portuguese cover bands and some bands/singers with their own music selections

For us working and living here, there are two great places we always recommend to clients, and we regularly post on our facebook page..

Cafe Ingles in Silves next to the castle, they normally offer music on a Friday & Saturday evening as well as Sunday afternoons.  There is variety of music from blues, jazz and popular music.

Club Nau located on the beach Praia Grande, Ferragudo has music every Sunday late afternoon.  In peak season there is music every night.

Both restaurants you should book and check up Facebook for whats on that month/week.  Two of our favourite bands are the energic Nicole Silver Band and 5ex, both have their groupies.

Sunset Secrets - Silves Castle

This was a new experience for us, "Sunset Secrets" is a weekly event normally held weekly for 4 to 5 weeks before the Silves Medieval Festival.

"A magic and mystic place, full of memories and cultures, is waiting for you. Silves Castle is one of the most important historic monument in the Algarve and will present every Thursdays special events which combine concerts with sonorities from the Mediterranean, oriental dance, poetry dinner, free relaxing massage and also original gastronomic proposals which innovate and reinvent the local/regional traditions. We create an intimate atmosphere; you only have to relax and enjoy… forgetting time."

There is a 5€ entry fee to the castle.  Yes you may recognise the Fire dancer from the Medieval pictures, the fantastic Monica Peirara is part of the Akhawat Al Raks group.

Go-Karting

Go-Karting at the Kartadomo - Autodromo International Algarve is one of best experiences for some serious high octane time out.

You can either go for some time out just general karting or rather what we prefer to do is get enough people together to organise a race.  This will definitely reveil your competitive side.

The minimum race is 10 minutes or qualfying followed by a 20 minute race.  With the top 3 receiving medals and bubbly - costing around 40€ per person

Faro - more than just an Airport

For many people they only know Faro as the city that arrive and depart via the airport, however it offers so much more and is worth a daytrip.  There is plenty of history, culture, entertainment, beaches, science museum and shopping.

If you have a late flight the Forum shopping centre which is just 5 mins drive from the airport has lockers and a couple of TV screens with flight arrivals and departures.  So you can shop, eat or go to the cinema while keeping an eye on your flights.

In 2016, we will be sharing lots of great experiences of this city from the eyes of those who live there and through us as tourists like our clients.

Eastern Algarve

Some people like to explore beyond just central and western Algarve and this year we hope to be able to share a few ideas from Eastern Algarve

Why not explore Tavira, and check out the impressive Camera Obscura Torre de Tavira!

More to follow as we continue our exploring of eastern Algarve
