Praia do Castelo is situated in the civil parish of Guia and the municipality of Albufeira. It is still somewhat secluded and very natural in spite of its closeness to more popular resort towns, and, as such, it feels like it is literally in the middle of nowhere since it is far removed from the tourist rush. This beach is surrounded by high limestone cliffs; therefore,, there are no strong winds along the beach, and it makes the beach more calm swimming conditions, particularly those used during summer.
The beach itself is rather small (about 200 meters), and this makes it an intimateate one. The beach at low tide is graced with tide pools and caves, just perfect to take a walk on. The shallow beaches will be suitable forr families with children, and couples will enjoy romantic places between the rocks.
Although it is large, Praia do Castelo is good with very basic services: sunbeds, parasols, a toilet facility, during the summer. There is a well-maintained boardwalk wooden steps down which visitors can safely walk off the car park and onto the sand.

How to Get There
It is approximately 6 km west of Albufeira, set in the Sesmarias district. It can be easily reached by car; having a small parking lot,, one can reach the beach within a short distance. When you are holidaying in and around Albufeira together with neighboring communities including Gal Armação de Pêra and Guia, it is a short 10–20 minute drive.
Local buseses and taxis are also availableble in the area to those who do not have a car. Or, we can rent a bike or go for beautiful walk on coastal nearby beaches.
Exploring the Rich History Behind Praia do Castelo

The name Praia do Castelo (Castle Beach) cannot be called poetic at all, and, in fact, can be explained by the existence of a historic watchtower atop cliffs. Constructed in the time of the Moorish occupation or the early Christian reconquest, the tower has been used to watch out to sea to see in sight of the pirate ships or an invading army coming in to attack coast. The ruins of the original castle are few in number nowadays, yet they give one an idea about the key importance of the area to the region some centuries ago.
The history of fishing in a traditional way is also presented here in this line of coast. The coves and the cliffs of the Algarve were means of subsistence to the fishermen and traders before the advent of tourism. Others dwell off the rocky promontories and fish, which is an ancient practice that goes back numerous centuries.
Today Praia do Castelo is less about bloody fights and more out relaxing on beaches or in land scenery. Still,, the historical vibes are still to be found in the cliffs, the roads and the landscapes around.
