Praia da Cova Redonda is a beautiful beach in the municipality of Lagoa. This is perfect, relaxing, and attracts families to spend summers peacefully. One of its most captivating aspects is the great rock that comes out of the water and is located near the beach. Let us see what else this beach offers as a must-visit destination.

Praia da Cova Redonda Beach: A Cozy Paradise

Praia da Cova Redonda

Encased in a bay between two towering rocky cliffs, Praia da Cova Redonda offers a quiet, calm environment for a perfect day spent unwinding by the sea. The rocks here, weathered and with unique shapes, make way for dramatic setting conditions to the beach's natural beauty. Further, the stones provide natural protection from wind, making it a perfect place for families with toddlers to enjoy calm, shallow waters. It seems as if the sea has bitten off a part of the cliff, leaving behind a stretch of soft golden beach.

Also Known as: Praia das Gaivotas or Praia do Vila Lara

Though officially named Praia da Cova Redonda, several other designations refer to this beach. Another popular name it is known by is Praia das Gaivotas or Seagull Beach, but it's also referred to under its alternate name of Praia do Vila Lara, which takes its name from the posh resort Vilalara Thalassa, entirely perched above it. Most of the area is brimming with holiday apartments and tourist resorts; thus, it makes a perfect venue for families and travelers close to the beach.

Rock Formation

The best thing about Praia da Cova Redonda is that it is a singular rock that protrudes above the water near the eastern side of the beach. This rock is often compared with a whale's shape or a large ship. A good vegetation stock covers it, and sea birds frequently visit it. The charm of the scene comes more from that. This rock will be evidenced more from above with a view of how it stands amid the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Waters and Family-Friendly Atmosphere of the Beach

The gentle waters at Praia da Cova Redonda deepen gradually and provide safe, fun, and entertaining family time with kids. If visitors scamper about on either side of the beach, they will find hundreds of shells perfect for shell collecting. The beach retains its peaceful feel, being well tucked away even in the sweltering summer months. It is a great day of sand and surf fun for families.

Getting there

Although Praia da Cova Redonda is not precisely the beach with easy entry, the whole drive down becomes a mini-adventure. The best itinerary would be to drive down an EN125 national road until the Porches exit; from that point, signs direct you toward Armação de Pêra, where you take the turn for Alporchinhos and Vila Lara. The closer you get, the more signs evident about the beach. There is road parking about two hundred meters from the beach.

If you want, you can reach the beach by climbing a staircase that is over 100 steps long. Don't worry, though—the stairs stretch down easily. As you go down, green plants surround you, giving you a great view of the beach below. This view makes the walk worthwhile. At first, the beach might seem small, but if you walk around the cliff, you'll see more sandy areas.
