Praia da Marinha is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. It is located in the Algarve region near Lagoa, Portugal. Named as one of the most beautiful beaches of the planet, it has gradually turned into a destination the international community just can't ignore, including editors of the most important magazines CNN and Lonely Planet. Yet the Praia da Marinha is even more beautiful than the picture, which is why every visitor to Portugal must go.

Praia da Marinha

Praia da Marinha -A Lovely Beach

It is not a surprise that Praia da Marinha has become the object of admiration. All Algarve tourism commercials have featured this beach, and for years, Quora-like websites such as TripAdvisor have regarded it as one of Portugal's best beaches. What sets this beach apart from others? It is not only the sand but also the associated cliffs that form a picturesque scene. These massive rocks and clean flowing water give tourists a quiet and hospitable atmosphere.

Beach Experience

Marinha Beach Experience

You won't have a hard time getting to Praia da Marinha, but taking the day off to enjoy a visit is leisure. The sands at the beach are fine and golden and the place is also very clean. The good part here is that the water doesn't have any dangerous currents and one can swim in the sea at most times of the year, with the exception that the waves might be a litte choppy a couple of days a week.

Its sides are lined with cliffs that help shield the beach from strong winds, which might make a little dent in the carefree vibe. When you go to the Algarve you should take some measures to protect yourself from the burning sun.

Exploring the Famous M Rock

Exploring the Famous M Rock

One of the most distinctive features of Praia da Marinha is the so-called 'M rock' or 'Cathedral.' It lies to the right of the beach and is a tourist destination; for instance, one can wade towards the landmark during low tide. This rock looks incredibly beautiful from the cliffs, which is excellent news for anyone who loves to take photos.

If you have your luck, you get to meet a unique viewpoint that features the M rock and other fantastic formations that shape a heart-shaped design- this is nature at its best.

Breathtaking Cliff Views

But before you leg it down to Praia da Marinha’s shore, cast your eyes to the clifftops and the views that accompany you. The hills here tower high over the beach and it is lined by a steep headland, which is a dramatic contrast to the beautiful clear blue water. Get to take in one of the best views in the Algarve from here

At the bottom, there is a small restaurant for refreshments, and at the main section of the beach, one has to go around a large rock. High tide usually means that you must be careful because there is a tendency to rush back if it starts raining.

A Snorkeling Paradise

Being very shallow and thus serene and clear, Praia da Marinha is particularly suitable for snorkeling.  One can see fish and other sea life from above the water, benefiting from the fact that here, unlike in other regions, it is possible to identify various types of fish and other sea creatures from above the water. No snorkeling equipment is for sale directly at the beach, so it is necessary to bring your own to have the best and full experience.

Hiking Trails at Cliff Edge

If you’re looking to add some walk time into your beach time, but you’d rather be exploring dazzling natural sites in the process, this is where beautiful nature trails wait to be trekked at Praia da Marinha, especially those which snake along the cliffs. The trek, called the Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos, wraps around seven abandoned valleys and beaches, such as Praia da Benagil and Praia do Carvalho. It begins to the west of Marinha beach and it is one of the best day walks in Algarve.

Praia do Carvalho

You can also head east for a cliff walk to Senhora da Rocha. This is a slow-moving trail with a better coast view and is perfect for exploring the elegance of nature.

 Nearby Beaches -Praia da Marinha

Many gorgeous beaches surround the beautiful Praia da Marinha, which you must visit. You can also walk to Praia de Benagil, the location of Benagil Sea Cave. There are boat rides to the neighboring caves. Praia do Carvoeiro is a much less crowded beach perfect for those who prefer to be calm.

Praia de Benagil

The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail leads to Praia da Corredoura, another lesser-known beauty. Praia de Vale Centeanes, located to the west, is slightly smaller but more developed, offering services that may benefit families.

How to Get There

Praia de Marinha is between Armação de Pêra and Carvoeiro, close to another famous beach, Praia de Benagil. You can easily explore the beach by private car. Take the N125, exit near the International School at Lagoa, and follow the signs to the beach. There is a car park at the top of the cliff, but it is advised to start early – particularly during peak season – as the car park fills up quickly.

However, for visitors who do not own a car, there are few buses from Lagoa, which are very scarce and only operate twice a week. You can also take taxis, although they come at a high cost. Taxis are also available, but they are comparatively expensive. When choosing a taxi, ask the driver to pick it up later that day or night.

Dining and Restaurants Nearby

As part of the Praia da Marinha facilities, only one restaurant in the area offers a limited menu and is expensive for the quality provided. Most people prefer to carry their lunch and go to a beach barbecue. However, several restaurants are nearby for those who would love to grab a full table-service meal.

Brisa do Mar: A restaurant previously founded in Portugal that served seafood cuisines, the restaurant was closed.

O Algar is a kid-friendly restaurant with stunning sea views and affordable meals.

Ocean Restaurant: A restaurant with a high rating that provides top standard dishes, including internet Food, served by Chef Hans Neuner.
