Praia da Prainha beach -just 5 minutes drive from the town of Alvor and some 15 minutes from Portimão- is a small, lovely beach, offering an escape from bustling locations with its golden sands, clear waters, and cliffs. Being a relatively unknown beach, however, it is slowly gaining popularity for its tranquil beauty.

Geography of Praia da Prainha

Praia da Prainha beach

Praia da Prainha is situated in the Alvor area of Portimão, in the western Algarve. Quite near to little Alvor- a quaint fishing village—the beach is easily accessible yet away from hustle and bustle. Measuring not more than 200m, this small beach is enclosed by great limestone cliffs that give the feeling of being away from the world. The waters are incredibly calm and clear, very swimming and relaxing at this place. Meanwhile, there are lush vegetation and rock formations to add to the rarity of the place. Because the wind and large waves cannot get to Praia da Prainha, the beach will feature a sense of intimacy and tranquility.

Activities and Major Attractions at Praia da Prainha

Although Praia da Prainha cannot compete with the more immense beaches in the Algarve, it has more than a handful of activities and attractions worth visiting. Here are some popular things to do when here:

1. Swimming and Sunbathing

The crystal clear waters of Praia da Prainha make swimming very tempting in hot weather. Protected waters along this beach remain quiet for respectable swimming for children and adults. Guests can sunbathe in the cool shade provided by the great cliffs that line the golden shore of the beach. Unlike other crowded beaches in curse of more popular counterparts, this intimacy defines and offers utmost peace just to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

3. Trekking and Scenic Walk

Land of the glorious shore walking trails, Algarve does not miss out on the one running along the beach. Stunning views and opportunities from the cliffs which enclose the beach are truly awe-inspiring. An immensely popular walk runs from Praia da Prainha all the way to adjacent Praia do Alvor, offering stunning views along the way. One pleasant hiking experience around this part of the region.
