Driving is the most convenient way to reach Praia dos Três Irmãos. From:

  • Faro – Take the A22 highway west toward Portimão (approx. 45–60 minutes).

  • Portimão – Drive via the N125 toward Alvor (approx. 15–20 minutes).

Parking is available near the beach access points, though it fills quickly during summer.

By Public Transport

Local buses connect Faro and Portimão to Alvor. From Alvor village, you can walk or take a short taxi ride to the beach.

The best time to go to Praia dos Três Irmãos is in spring (April to June) or early autumn (September to October). During these times, we’ve got mild temperatures (around 24°C) that make this a great option for some relaxation on the beach or outdoor adventure.


And with fewer people than during the height of the summer season, holidaymakers can enjoy a more peaceful visit with some of the best views of the cliffs and rocks. Summer is a busy time to visit, however, so expect more people if you’re coming during the high season. But summer continues to be a popular time of year to visit, and if you’re attending during the height of tourist season, brace yourself for company.

The Church of Misericórdia in Alvor is a beautiful 18th-century building that shows off the local style of architecture. You shouldn't miss it.


Birdwatching and hiking are two activities that nature lovers can do at the nearby Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve. There are more than 130 different kinds of birds in the reserve. Walks are peaceful, and you can see the native plants and animals, which is a nice change from the bright life on the beach.


Tres Irmãos is in fact a few little bays/coves, 4 in all. When the tide is out, you can walk from cove to cove. If you try this at high tide, you will get wet. Each of the two coves to the east has a restaurant. The last cove is called Prainha, which translates to "small beach." Mind the tide at Prainha. You are best visiting this part at low tide.



If you walk towards Praia de Alvor, this part is protected by natural dunes. The Alvor boardwalk is an excellent place to take a walk. This wooden boardwalk takes you straight through the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve. It is about three kilometres long. Walking along the Alvor boardwalk can be very calming. You can also see the beach and the area from here, which is very nice.

After a day of activities, treat your taste buds to the delicious regional cuisine at one of Alvor’s many family-owned restaurants. Grilled sardines, a local delicacy, and cataplana, a traditional fish stew, are both dishes to try.
